$4000 more annually PER STUDENT to spend on public education…
Davis Schools Foundation Gives Back! We live in a place where the citizens rise to the occasion to do what is right. You may know that California schools have fallen dramatically in recent years. We are well below the national average in spite of having the 7 largest world economy in the state of California.
Founded on the belief that every child deserves a good public education the Davis Schools Foundation raises money from the community to return to the schools. Giving is targeted to support library services, science and outdoor education and counselors. Money is raised through donations, events including the annual turkey trot run, a golf tournament, and the celebrity waiter dinner, and through a Dollar-A-Day pledge program.
Last Thursday the foundation announced a $75,000 donation to the public schools! The gift will be used to:
1. Fund expansion of Advancement Via Individual Determination Fund
2. $12,000 to fund expansion of Safe Schools Ambassadors at the secondary schools
3. $50,000 to continue to fund outdoor science education for sixth graders at all Davis schools.
4. $13,000 will be used to expand AVID - a program which encourages high school students with a 2.0 to 3.5 grade point to acheive their full academic potential.
